NGC 6946 is a face-on spiral galaxy with a small bright nucleus in the constellations of Cygnus and seen behind the many stars of the Milky Way. Its distance from Earth is about 22.5 million light-years and it is one of the dozen brightest spiral galaxies near the Milky Way.
